After messing around for another few hours with the lights and a ll the new stuff, I think Jen and I have finally got something a lot closer to what we were looking for. We had three shoots this week for this event and they all went great. Thanks so much to all of the folks who came out last week and this week to help us prepare for this event. For the photographically curious we made a big change in the lighting by adding an accent light. I decided that as it got later we were losing some edge detail on our models, so I put an accect light to the right side, behind and above the subjects. See if you can see the extra difference it made.

So we had this idea to take pictures outside in our yard and use some white accent lights as a background. So in order to get everything to look right with these little lights we needed to wait until dusk. This works out well this time of year anyway since it cools off at dusk. We are still in the process of fixing up the garden...We are adding a path with some rustic fencing around it and arbors at each end. We are going to be working on adding to it a little every year so we should have new events all the time going on out there. We did add a shed this year which is quite photogenic. I think the red cedar color makes a really great backgound. Since we don't have our fence in place just ...
This is our most popular event next to Santa. We added an extra week this year to make enough room for everyone. The event will run from January 26th through February 9th. This is such a cool thing, we assemble a 4 foot cube in the studio and start taking pictures. Like this: We can take all types of poses and breakouts from the family. We even take pets! After we are done, we put all of the best ones together in an array. Today is the last day of this year's contest. We still have a few more appointments to go, but here is a few from the past few weeks. We used the simple balck drop for the contest enteries. We also took some pics on our new spring drops to give us some sample imagery for the school posters and the website.The two new drops are called Spring Planks: and Vintage: For this drop we are going to use a more desaturated look with a slight white vignette. It just makes the images look prettier.
